Mirrorless Cameras—The First Arrow on Americano Dream

Lone Tree, Harbour Island, Bahamas

One of our shooting spots is the famous “Lone Tree” on Harbour Island. This photo of Heather was from our previous Bahamas Photography Adventure on Harbour Island. Mirrorless cameras are one of the hottest topics in photography especially after Sony introduced their α7R II, 42.4 megapixel, full frame camera. The non-believers of mirrorless can no longer complain about pixels and full-frame capabilities, Sony has tackled that problem dead on—but that also brought the mirrorless price tag back to par with the more traditional DSLRs.

However, the micro four-thirds systems give a great bang for the buck with outstanding innovations like the Olympus M.Zuiko ED 40-150mm f2.8 PRO weatherproof lens, which in DSLR terms becomes an 80-300mm f/2.8 lens. This lens works with all micro four-thirds camera mounts including Panasonic mirrorless cameras. Price on the Olympus lens averages from $1300 to $1400 whereas Canon and Nikon 300mm f/2.8 lenses cost around $6,000 and weigh three times more than the micro four-thirds lens.

Since mirrorless cameras have been a major topic throughout the photography communities, and I have written articles about the topic, we decided to give that topic an “Arrow” page here on Americano Dream. Check back often as this page is updated accordingly.
